Why Study the Bible?

by Troy Taft

2nd Timothy 3:16-17 :

Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The Bible tells us that God created us and everything in the world. What you see above are two verses from the Bible that tell us that it is a message from Him specifically given to mankind to understand life and know how to live it. It's like having a manual to life made by life's engineer. What could be more important to study that that?

Jesus, when He was tempted to disobey God and create bread from a stone answered Satan this way:

Luke 4:4 :

Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’”

Since the Scripture (what we call the Bible) is "God-breathed" and Jesus says that we should live "by every word of God", we know with absolute certainty that, if the Bible is true at all, then it is the most important thing to study in this life. It doesn't give us any middle ground. Either we reject the Bible or accept that it is the most important book.

I really believe this and it has changed my life. After studying for hours and hours, the truth of what we read here has become even more obvious. The Bible actually talks about everything important to us. I don't understand everything yet, and I doubt I will in this life, but I believe that the Bible is what it says it is.
