The Oath that He Says of Him

Psalms 110:2-7 :

Yahweh will send out the rod of your strength out of Zion.
Rule among your enemies.
Your people offer themselves willingly in the day of your power, in holy array.
Out of the womb of the morning, you have the dew of your youth.
Yahweh has sworn, and will not change his mind:
“You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”
The Lord is at your right hand.
He will crush kings in the day of his wrath.
He will judge among the nations.
He will heap up dead bodies.
He will crush the ruler of the whole earth.
He will drink of the brook on the way;
therefore he will lift up his head.

The world has something coming. There is some seriously unfinished business that Jesus will do. When Jesus came last time, He was reserved and submissive. Next time, He will return as a warrior. This song is talking about Jesus, but it as also talking about a priesthood. This is yet another major theological topic that was commented on by the writer of Hebrews. I believe that writer was Paul based on records handed down outside of the Bible. Here's what he wrote:

Hebrews 7:20-22 :

Inasmuch as he was not made priest without the taking of an oath (for they indeed have been made priests without an oath), but he with an oath by him that says of him,

“The Lord swore and will not change his mind,
‘You are a priest forever,
according to the order of Melchizedek.’”

By so much, Jesus has become the collateral of a better covenant.

So we see that the Holy Spirit in the New Testament caused Paul to agree that this Psalm is talking about Jesus. If the Lord wills, and we go through Hebrews together, I intend to talk more about the order of priests of Melchizedek. For now, it's important for us to pay attention to the fact that this One who will "crush kings,""heap up dead bodies," and "crush the ruler of the whole earth," is none other that the resurrected Jesus. David tells us that this Messiah will be a priest forever. Jesus resurrected from the dead, never to die again. The fact that David knew about this is a miracle too. This is one of those Bible prophesies that has partly come true and is also yet to come true. May God help us to understand and appreciate what this song says.
